Today has been a little strangeā¦I went to a museum in Neuchatel, and I saw the little Jaquet-Droz robot/dolls from the 1700ās. They were really creepy, but it was exciting to see what they could do. They could draw, write notes, and even play the piano.
I guess that is why Iām posting the new single byĀ The Little OnesĀ today, because ordinary things done by little ones can be pretty cool.
It has been quite sometime coming, but it appears thatĀ Leon Jean-MarieĀ will finally have an album out sometime this year. He has already opened for acts such notable acts like Amy Winehouse, Mika, and The Roots, and even worked with producer Mark Ronson.
If youāre a fan of Prince I would give this Brit a listen, because he is definetly funky. With throbbing baselines, heavy drum claps, and sultry soul vocals, you canāt go wrong. His first single in over a year, āBed of Nailsā is due out April 7th (Iām assuming that is the UK release date). In the meantime however check out his previously released single here.
Cleaning up my desktop today I found some music that I was totally unaware I had. I randomly downloaded some free album fromĀ Lost in Your Box, and completely forgot about itā¦until today. Boston bandĀ Cyanide ValentineĀ has offered up their album for free on their website, and I am so glad they did. Usually you tend to not expect much of a band that gives thier album away for free (save for Radiohead), yet this is one of those rare gems that defies your expectaions. Blending sparse vocals with swirling electronic and acoustic sounds reminiscnet ofĀ The Submarines, produces an album perfect for Sunday listening.
Itās funny how small the music world can be. I was just on myspace checking up on a French musician by the name of Barth, that I had heard of a couple weeks ago. Barthās sound first struck as being similar to the Beatles if it had been remixed with the soundtrack from the French cartoon āThe Triplets of Bellevilleā Although not a new artist (except to me), I knew that he had a new album coming out so I wanted to check the release date.
I noticed a cool looking gig flyer posted on the site, so I decided to check it out, and glad I did. Turns out to be a pretty cool indie electro pop band by the name My Beeās Garden with whom I am quickly becoming a fan of.
Upon closer inspection of the flyer I notice that Yoav, who a friend had just informed me of recently, will be joining My Beeās Garden for a gig in Paris. Yoavās album which is set to be released in the states on the 29th is unique in the sense that every song is allegedly only him and his guitar with the addition of simple effects. Now that wouldnāt be anything special if what you were hearing sounded like an acoustic song instead of one with a beat that somehow gets you bouncing.
