Tortured Soul @ Highline Ballroom
A friend of mine recently told me he takes pride in knowing a professional bum, which is the job description I decided to roll with, since apparently no one can comprehend that playing volleyball can be considered a job. Technically, this is not entirely true, considering I do get paid for my volleyball services in Switzerland. However, considering it is more of a vacation than a job, I think I will have to agree with him. Unfortunately, in keeping up with my professional bum status, I have noticed a severe depletion of my funds, making it difficult to regularly attend concerts. I bit the bullet last night and forked out some cash to check out Brooklyn’s own Tortured Soul, at the behest of a friend. AWESOME cannot accurately describe their live performances. Don’t get me wrong, they aren’t doing choreographed dances around the stage or anything like that, but you can just feel the energy emitting from the boys, especially drummer/singer Christian Urich. There is just something really special about listening to Soulful House music performed live. Not once did I, or anyone else in the crowd for that matter, stop dancing. Even more impressive was the fact that the band never once stopped playing during the 45 minutes they were on stage. Bottom line, if you have the chance, check ‘em out…if not, at least buy their new album Did You Miss Me, I know I am. Take a little taste below…
